Hello from Year 6, we would like to share with you our great display set up in the literacy class. To celebrate Book Day and to culminate our project about Roald Dahl, we organised this display together with a timetable of visits to show and tell our schoolmates about the writer’s life.
Previously, grade six pupils worked on the poem “A magic talking looking-glass” by Roald Dahl from ‘Revolting Rhymes’. We learned about verses, line break, rhyming words, couplets and rhythm. We watched the film too: we compared the traditional stories with Roald’s version and pointed out some similarities and differences. We really enjoyed his unexpected twists!
Also, we learnt about Roald’s life as well as how to write a biography about the author using chronological order, past tense, different categories in paragraphs and quotations.
To conclude the project and coinciding with the 23rd of April, we set up and explained the display to all the children at school. We designed two different versions: a simpler one for infants, year 1 and year 2 and a more challenging one for year 3, 4 and 5. We told our schoolmates the most important, amazing events and facts about the writer’s life. Besides, we carried out some activities for the children about Roald Dahl’s most popular characters to encourage interaction and participation.
Finally, the different classes expressed their opinion about our performance and left their comments about the visit in our Visitors’ Book.
Goodbye Tello Tellez school, we’ll always remember you!
